Lauren Williams Art x Art + Loom Collaboration

In our most recent collaboration, Samantha of Art+Loom and I have created the feeling of movement in the form of a rug. using varying shades of color in an array of fibers and multiple pile heights, the result is “Art for the floor”.

A few months ago I featured Miami based design firm IG Workshop in our Designer Spotlight, introducing you to Samantha Gallacher. I shared a bit about her rug company Art+Loom. It has been a dream of mine to see my artwork transformed into textiles, and once I learned more about Samantha’s art and her knowledge of rug design, I was immediately intrigued. I reached out about my designs and we spent months discussing concepts and finally collaborated on a capsule collection of rug designs, inspired by my fiber artwork.

Samantha translated the movement, texture, depth, and transition of colors from my fiber art into hand woven and hand crafted rugs with multiple pile heights, and rich, custom colors to create art for the floor. We took five of my favorite designs and together created unique, luxurious rugs that can be customized in size and color for your specific space needs. I’m so excited to show you more!!!

“Angled Lines” circular rug

“Driftwood” rug

“Revolution” runner

The inspiration behind this collaboration was to really bring depth, texture and a sense of movement found in my artwork and allow it to transcend into a rug.

Working with Samantha to design a rug with these goals in mind encouraged us to experiment with varied pile heights, a mixture of wool and silk fibers and really lean in to color choices to bring each rug design to life.

Angled Lines, Driftwood, Hendrix, the Pill Shaped Hendrix design, and Revolution are a few of the most requested designs for my fiber art collections. From these designs we created our capsule rug collection.

The rugs have similar textures to the fiber art with various pile heights hand crafted by artisans in Nepal with silk and wool. As the rugs are woven they are also scalloped and carved to create dimension that reflects the movement of the individual strands, seen in my artwork.

The “Driftwood” rug design, inspired by Lauren’s “Driftwood” tapestry design.

“At Art + Loom our goal is to reinvent the idea of an area rug, not only for warmth and grounding but also to bring modern art and self expression to the floor.

It seemed like such a natural collaboration to bring Lauren’s moving textures to the concept of a rug, playing with pile heights and materials to create a major wow factor.”
